While on-going employee development and training is critical for businesses to succeed and develop its most valuable resources, employees, these types of training sessions often lack the opportunity for learners to reflect, practice, and apply the concepts. In addition, these presentation-style events tend to be very passive, requiring only that the audience remain awake. Learners today expect more engagement and interactivity and often need to participate in “try me” exercises throughout and immediately following the instruction to understand and retain the learning.

So what is effective online learning?

There are many technology buzzwords swirling around online learning today, whether it’s Second Life, Alternate Reality, Game-Based Learning or micro-learning.
